Evidencing Skills and Qualifications
Standards Verification UK (SVUK) provides tools to help teachers and trainers evidence their personal skills and qualifications as they work towards Associate or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS/QTLS) and professional formation.
Tariff of Initial Teacher Training Qualifications
The Tariff of Initial Teacher Training Qualifications equates post 16 initial teacher training (ITT) qualifications available in England prior to September 2007 with the new teaching and training qualifications, which have since been introduced and are listed below:
- Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
- Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
- Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS).
The Tariff acknowledges legacy and other qualifications and ensures that people who wish to work towards Associate or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status start their journey at the appropriate stage of the new qualifications.
Evidencing personal skills in literacy and numeracy
Evidencing personal skills in literacy and numeracy is a mandatory element of the professional formation process of the Institute for Learning (IfL), enabling a teacher to gain licensed practitioner status.
SVUK is responsible for hosting the lists of approved qualifications for evidencing these skills, along with descriptors outlining their characteristics to allow teachers to determine if their qualifications meet the criteria. The lists were approved in September 2008, but will be subject to periodic review to ensure they remain fit for purpose.
Further guidance to teachers and employers is available on the Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) website, while further information on the process of professional formation is available on the IfL website.
